Printer’s Row

For independent publishers and the printers who make their books

Simplifying the business of books.

Printer’s Row helps publishers coordinate printing, production and financing through one workflow. Less time managing the process. More time launching books.

What we do

The people, services and money behind a book, in one place.

Printing marketplace

Source and coordinate manufacturing partners. Spec a book once, get comparable quotes, and track the job from prepress to the loading dock.

Services marketplace

Connect with trusted publishing service providers — the editors, designers and specialists a book needs before it ever reaches a press.

Financing

Coming soon

Pay and get paid on your terms. Publishers will be able to finance print runs and pay later. Printers get paid right away for their orders.

How it works

Every job, from quote to shipment, in one record.

Publishers, printers and our team work in the same job. Everyone sees the same status, and the next step is always clear.

  1. Quote

    Quoted

Spec the book once. Printers quote against the same sheet, so quotes compare line for line.

  2. Prepress

    In Review

Files are checked before they reach the printer. Problems come back with specifics, not a phone call.

  3. Proofs

    Proofs Ready

Printer proofs land in the job. Approve them or request revisions in one place.

  4. Production

    Printing

Status comes from the printer as the job moves, not from a chase email.

  5. Shipping

    Shipped

Split a run across warehouses, authors and events. Every destination is on the job.

  • Finance print runs and pay later (coming soon).

For printers

Work that arrives ready to quote.

  • New customers to fill open press capacity.
  • See where every bid stands so you can respond quickly.
  • Proofs, approvals and shipping details kept on the job.
  • Get paid right away for orders.

FAQ

Common questions.

What is Printer’s Row?
Printer’s Row is a platform that helps independent book publishers produce books. Publishers get comparable quotes from printers, hire publishing professionals and manage every print job, from quote to shipment, in one place.
Who is Printer’s Row for?
Independent and mid-sized book publishers in the US, and the offset and print-on-demand printers that manufacture their books. Printer’s Row is built for businesses.
How do print quotes work?
Enter a book’s specs once: format, trim size, paper, binding, quantity and timeline. Printers in the network quote against the same specs, so publishers can compare price and turnaround side by side and choose the best fit. Proofs, prepress, production and shipping are then tracked in the same job.
What kinds of printing does Printer’s Row support?
Printer’s Row works with both offset and print-on-demand printers, so each job can be matched to the right process for its quantity, specs and schedule.
Can I hire designers, editors and other publishing help?
Yes. The services marketplace connects publishers with designers, book-layout specialists, indexers, editors and other production professionals.
Does Printer’s Row offer financing?
Financing is coming soon. It will let publishers fund print runs and pay later, instead of paying the printer months before distributor payments arrive, while printers get paid right away for their orders. Contact us to hear when it launches.
How much does Printer’s Row cost?
Printer’s Row earns a fee on jobs placed through the platform, and fees are shown before you commit. Printers can also subscribe for better access to jobs.
How do printers join?
Printers can join the network by contacting us. Members receive work from new publishers, with jobs that arrive fully specced and ready to quote.
Where is Printer’s Row based?
Printer’s Row, Inc. was founded in 2021 and is based in Portland, Oregon. It works with publishers and printers across the US.
Who founded Printer’s Row?
Rachel Bell (CEO), a publisher who has consulted for independent publishers on production and supply chain, and Andy Barilla (CTO), who started as a developer in publishing and has spent the past decade in fintech.
